Book Presentation

June 24, 2026

The presentation of the book The Architect’s Palette took place at the “Trdat” Exhibition Hall of the Alexander Tamanyan National Museum-Institute of Architecture. The event opened with welcoming remarks by the Museum-Institute’s Director, Zarouhi Hayrapetyan, who emphasized the significance of the publication as a unique and valuable work shedding new light on the life, professional activity, and especially the intellectual and written legacy of one of the most prominent representatives of Armenian architecture, Mikayel Mazmanyan. Ms. Hayrapetyan also noted that The Architect’s Palette will add new dimensions to future exhibitions dedicated to Mikayel Mazmanyan at the Museum-Institute. The next speaker was Lilit Ter-Minasyan, granddaughter of architect Mikayel Mazmanyan and compiler of the book. She presented the history of the book’s creation and expressed her gratitude to the Gulbenkian Foundation for supporting and sponsoring its publication. She also highlighted that the book cover features a portrait of Mikayel Mazmanyan painted by the renowned artist Martiros Saryan. Karen Balyan, author of the book’s foreword, spoke about the difficult fate of architects who became victims of Stalinist repressions. He also presented Mikayel Mazmanyan’s creative path and the distinctive features of his professional approach. The participants of the presentation expressed their admiration and appreciation for the work accomplished, shared their memories, and read excerpts from the book. On June 23 at 3:00 PM, the presentation of the book “The Architect’s Palette” will take place in the “Trdat” Exhibition Hall of the Alexander Tamanyan National Museum-Institute of Architecture. The book presents the written legacy of architect Mikayel Mazmanyan, including articles, memoirs, poems, letters, recollections of contemporaries, and other valuable materials. The book will be presented by its compiler Lilit Ter-Minasyan and Karen Balyan, author of the foreword. During the event, Epigraph Bookstore will offer the book for sale.

Book Presentation

A presentation of the book “The Fortresses of Syunik: 5th–14th Centuries” by Doctor of Architecture Ara Zaryan was held at the National Museum-Institute of Architecture after Alexander Tamanyan. The opening remarks were delivered by the Museum-Institute’s Director, Zaruhi Hayrapetyan, who emphasized the importance of donating to the museum’s collections the studies, measured drawings, and documentary materials included in the book, all of which possess significant scholarly and archival value. During the event, the author presented the results of his many years of research, focusing on the fortresses of historic Syunik, their architectural characteristics, history, and the challenges related to their preservation. A speech was also delivered by the author of the book’s foreword, Professor Ashot Haykazun Grigoryan, Doctor of Architecture, who highlighted the scientific value and importance of the work for the study of Armenian architectural heritage and addressed the distinctive features of Armenian fortress architecture. Remarks were also made by Artsvi Bakhchinyan, representative of the AGBU Vahram Aptalian Cultural Foundation and member of the book’s editorial committee. Professor Lyuba Kirakosyan, Doctor of Architecture, also addressed the audience, emphasizing the significance of the publication and expressing hope that it would stimulate further research and scholarly studies. We extend our gratitude to all participants of the event for their interest in and contribution to the preservation and promotion of Armenia’s historical and architectural heritage.

Museum Night

At the National Museum-Institute of Architecture after Alexander Tamanyan, within the framework of the annual international event “Museum Night,” the interactive program “My Key to Unity” was held. Visitors not only toured the museum’s “Tamanyan” and “Trdat” exhibition halls, but also became participants in a symbolic activity: by opening the small doors of the installation, they wrote down their thoughts, wishes, and answers to the question of what the key to unity means to them. We thank everyone for their participation and for the warm atmosphere.

Commemorative Evening Dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of Martin Mikayelyan

March 30, 2026

On March 24, 2026, a commemorative evening dedicated to the 100th anniversary of architect Martin Mikayelyan was held at the National Museum-Institute of Architecture named after Alexander Tamanyan. Opening remarks were delivered by the Director of the Museum-Institute, Zarouhi Hayrapetyan, and the Deputy Chairman of the RA Urban Development Committee, Nune Petrosyan. The evening was hosted by reciter Anna Mikayelyan. During the event, visitors had the opportunity to discover the architect not only as a master, but also as a personality. Excerpts from his autobiography “My Path” were presented, video materials featuring memories of colleagues and friends were screened, and artist Ruben Arevshatyan gave a speech. One of the most touching moments of the evening was the speeches of Martin Mikayelyan’s three sons — Armen, Areg, and Avet — who shared personal memories, portraying him as a father, teacher, and friend. At the end of the evening, a book-catalog dedicated to the life and work of Martin Mikayelyan, authored by Avet Mikayelyan, was presented. We thank everyone who shared this important and warm evening with us.

Public Lecture

On March 20, 2026, a lecture dedicated to the 100th anniversary of architect Martin Mikayelyan was held in the “Trdat” exhibition hall of the National Museum-Institute of Architecture named after Alexander Tamanyan. The museum director, Zarouhi Hayrapetyan, delivered the opening remarks. Lectures were given by the exhibition curator, architect Karen Balyan, and architect Ashot Kanayan. At the end of the event, the students in attendance took part in a surprise quiz and received, as a gift, a catalog dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Martin Mikayelyan, provided by the architect’s son, Avet Mikayelyan. The event took place in a warm and engaging atmosphere.

Philatelic Exhibition

On November 27, the Alexander Tamanian National Museum-Institute of Architecture hosted the “Republican Philatelic Exhibition Dedicated to Tourism in Armenia,” organized by the Armenian Association of Philatelists. Within the framework of the event, a special cancellation ceremony took place for a postcard dedicated to the Philatelic Exhibition.

International Conference “Architectural Heritage, Preservation, and Prospects”

On October 13–14, within the framework of the events dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the Alexander Tamanian National Museum-Institute of Architecture, the international conference “Architectural Heritage, Preservation, and Prospects” was held at the Museum. The conference brought together representatives of research institutions from Armenia and abroad, as well as independent scholars. The opening session featured welcoming remarks by Nune Petrosyan, Deputy Chair of the Urban Development Committee of the Republic of Armenia, Zaruhi Hayrapetyan, Director of the Museum, and Ashot Grigoryan, Head of the Research Department. We extend our sincere gratitude to all participants for their valuable contributions and involvement.

On April 26, a panel discussion titled “Armenian Architecture in the 20th–21st Centuries” was held in the “Tamanyan” Hall of the Alexander Tamanyan National Museum-Institute of Architecture. The event was organized within the framework of the museum’s exhibition of the same name. The opening remarks were delivered by the museum’s Director, Zaruhi Hayrapetyan. The discussion featured participation from Ashot Grigoryan, Head of the Museum’s Research Department and architect; architect Karen Balyan; as well as representatives of the architectural studios snkh and Storaket. The panel-format meeting evolved into an engaging discussion, facilitated by direct dialogue between the participants and the audience
